Wine Tasting with The Pig

The Pig Cut & Tenuta Fertuna Winery Collaboration.

I had a wonderful virtual tasting with The Pig Team this week who have teamed up with a wonderful Tuscan winery to produce three wines – a delight for Italian wine lovers and Pig lovers alike.

The Pig team sommeliers, Paulo the winemaker and James Golding Pig chef talked us through lots lovely information about the wine a long with with some tasty recipes to pair, with over 200 other attendees!

The wines….

IGT Toscana Bianco 2019

🍇 Sangiovese, Vermentino & Sauvignon Blanc

Pear and blossom on the nose with flavours of pear, apple and white peach with notes of elderflower. Dry, delicate and so easy drinking.

DOC Maremma Toscana Rosé

🍇 100% Sangiovese

Beautiful pale blush rosé made Provençal style. Oh my, this was a goodie. Classic flavours of strawberry and raspberry with some creamy notes too, but what made it stand out was a wonderful saline edge as if catching a sea breeze. Clean, refreshing and delicious.

It was very interesting to try a white wine and a rosé made from Sangiovese, this was a first for me but definitely not a last.

IGT Toscana Rosso 2016

🍇 Sangiovese, Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon

Probably the most classic Italian of the three. Red cherries and dried herb notes on the nose with the addition of ripe plums, cassis and a touch of vanilla on the palate. Luscious, soft and well balanced, very lovely indeed.
