I’ve been sipping on this Chilean Syrah over the weekend which is new exclusively to Coop.
Viña Leyda is an award winning boutique winery known for making cool climate wines. Viviana Navarrete is the lead winemaker there and was chosen by Tim Atkin as winemaker of the year in 2020, so I was already expecting great things.
A boutique winery nestled in Leyda Valley, Chile. So close to the coast you can feel the sea breeze, lush and green, cool yet brilliantly sunny, all perfectly captured in this bottle.
The wine is fresh, vibrant and juicy on the palate with lovely smooth tannins. Lots of flavours of ripe cherry and plum and also some sharper blueberry notes. It has a lovely peppery spice and savoury character with a slightly salty edge, the oak subtly poised in the background.
A delicious wine that packs in a lot of flavour without feeling too heavy, exactly the type of red which is great for Spring and a perfect pairing for Lamb. It’s great value at £8 and is on offer until 6th April so grab a bottle (or two) to enjoy over Easter!
